What is the easiest type of motorcycle to learn on? ›

Cruisers. A cruiser is a motorcycle with a low seat height, thick tires, and a V-twin engine. Overall, the cruiser is a great choice for beginners because they're stylish, comfortable, and has a relaxed power output to handle better at low speeds.

Classic, vintage or antique motorcycles are generally at least 25 years old and look the way they were intended to when first manufactured or built. Depending on the insurer, classic bikes as new as 20 years old can be considered vintage, but this isn't always the case.

A common trait between the three categories is that all classic, vintage, and antique models are considered such if they're at least 25 years old. Another common factor in deciding whether a model fits into these categories is whether the bike looks the way it was intended to look when manufactured.

Generally, owning a motorcycle is relatively cheaper than having a car. It has a lower initial cost, it is fuel efficient, and the insurance cost is also lower.

Learning the Clutch & Throttle

Many of our students riding a motorcycle for the first time find it hard to perfect use of the clutch and throttle; especially when taking off from a stop or during slow speed maneuvering.

If it's all original looking and old, it's probably a classic. If it's customized and old, it's most likely vintage. If it's more than 35 years old, it's definitely antique.

In Terms of Age…

In general, a bike that was manufactured more than 20 years ago is considered old. Of course, for some models, being at least 20 years old makes them vintage. By definition, those that are 35 years old or older are considered antiques. Somewhere in the midst of these two, you have classics.

Classic, antique or vintage motorcycle insurance

Liability may be lower but comprehensive and collision might be more. In addition, the make, model and year of the motorcycle impact the price. An older, hard to find make and model, may be more expensive to insure than on that is more common.

There are a variety of descpritions to define a classic motorbike such as such as, Retro, Vintage, Antique, and Modern Classic just to name a few.

What is considered low mileage for a motorcycle? ›

Which Bike Will Wear Out First? Assuming you're talking about a motorcycle aimed at normal street usage, you could probably assume any bike with under 10,000 miles on the odometer is low mileage and has lots of life left. As for high mileage, once you get to 20,000 miles, most modern motorcycles should still be fine.

Vintage Motorcycles: bikes that are 25 years or older.

For new riders, a smaller motorcycle with a smaller engine size is the safest choice, while for long-distance travel, a touring motorcycle is the safest option. Choose based on your riding experience and intended use.

Exposure to weather and limited storage

Not only do motorcycles not have the same grip on the road as cars, but it's uncomfortable being exposed to the elements. Another con of owning a motorcycle is that motorcycles are not the best option for carrying groceries home or transporting another person from place to place.
